Welcome to the Neighborhood!

How can we help new friends get to know our community?

Project Summary

Students work together to create a shared newcomer’s guide to important places in the neighborhood around the school or in their broader community. After creating a shared class map of the community, student teams each create maps that document a different geographic feature (e.g., places to play, places to be in nature, places to shop). Individually (with support from the teacher), students write and illustrate brief descriptions of their favorite places to be included in the guide.
