An abandoned dirty Garfield and other toys at a landfill

In this project, students take on the role of toy designers as they investigate how to create a circular economy for toys by repurposing old/broken toys into new ones. Students will learn about the role of the toy industry in generating plastic waste. They will observe toys closely and identify and analyze the materials, its properties, and what are existing barriers to recycling toys.  In small groups, students will lead an old/broken/unused toy drive, collect items, take them apart (to increase variables/possibilities) and create new toys. The toys students create will live in a school or community “Toy Library.”
